Kriph hails from the mountains of Northern Virginia where he grew up swimming, fishing, foraging and hunting. A few years ago, he packed up his bags and headed to Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. It was there that he stumbled upon a set of snorkeling equipment and a Hawaiian sling. Having never fished in this manor before he decided to give it a shot and was immediately hooked. Kriph spent that next period of his life freediving off the coast of Southern California spearing fish. Shortly after his adventures in Southern California, he heard the Florida Keys calling his name. It was there that he picked up a SCUBA tank and in short order achieved his advanced PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced SCUBA certifications. When the dive season came to an end it was time for the next adventure to begin. He embarked on the “short” drive from the Florida Keys to the Alexander Archipelago and Southern Southeast Alaska. That’s where he donned his first 7mm wetsuit and dove headfirst into guiding for Snorkel Alaska. After a couple of decades in high end food and beverage service Kriph has unleashed his passion for sharing the underwater world with our guests.
